SCARYBRAINED is a social media collective created by LA-based disabled genderqueer artist Kiernan Sjursen-Lien. It embraces the importance of stories with its work, and the ability stories have to make real change. Its work chases the heart in all of us, and every living thing .It wants more than anything to help others who are victims and/or disabled to gather their own voice to tell their own stories, too.

The beast is rarely spotted and oft rumored not to exist, usually cawing at crows in the woods, training an evil golden retriever, or doing the equally terrifying work of needs-based arts education (particularly for disabled, trans, and underprivileged youth and events in Los Angeles and around the USA). If you listen very carefully, you might even still hear the creature, singing age-old ballads to its evil service dog and freeloading loser cats. And if you’re lucky- maybe it can make some artwork for you!

Kiernan might be an oddball, but that’s usually why it is hired. Kiernan has over a decades experience in both professional animation and comics, having worked for big studios like Nickelodeon, Disney, OddBot, Papercutz, MadHouse, BOOM! and more! They have also sank their fangs into many series you love, having written for comic series The Loud House, The Casagrandes, Over the Garden Wall, The Amazing World of Gumball, Fionna and Cake, The Not-So-Secret Society, and more- including many award winning original shorts and comics like The Magnificent Menagerie of Melvin McMelanie, On the Run, Winston and Harvey, A Gay ol Time, Secondhand Soup, and others. Kiernan also has ample experience volunteering in arts education, from working with Nickelodeon and Lollipop Network to bring art lessons to kids, experience with creating semester itineraries as with A Place Called Home, all the way to recent “How To Make an 8-Fold” events with ROFLCOPTER raves for Grown-Up Kids!
